History
The Georgia Sprint Karting Association actually started as The Georgia Road Racers with our first official meeting at a Shoneys restaurant in Hampton, Georgia on January 27, 2005. A small but dedicated group of karting enthusiasts including Gary Cloy (our first President), Gill Spencer (our second President), Bob Barthelemy (our third President), Lee Cobb, Kerry Wilson, Jory Holbrook, Raymond Valez, and Tom Rogers (I hope I did not forget anyone).

To say the least, at first it was a struggle to arrange for the lease of the track and to get people to come out to the track on race day. Our first race was scheduled for April 30th but due to rain we raced on Sunday May 1st, 2005. We had a total of 8 entries at that first race. The second race that we put on had 12 entries and we thought we had hit the big time! For the next several races we averaged 10-12 entries per race. During the late summer & fall of 2005 we averaged 12-14 entries per race with a record 24 entries at the last race of 2005.

In 2006 we have seen a steady increase in participation averaging 24 entries the last five races with record entries at the June 3rd event of (27) and at the June 17th event with (28) entries at our last race before the summer break. I am excited for the future of the GSKA as momentum continues to build. It is every driver and pit crew's responsibility to build this sport as an excellent way to experience true competition in a friendly sportsmanlike environment. I believe this is the key to the future growth of GSKA.

God bless,
Bob Barthelemy
